Rounded Rectangle: Autumn, Winter and Spring—enjoy Newquay at it’s best without the crowds

Sun, sea, surf and fun

Most people think Newquay is just about summer sun and surfing. But if you think that you would be missing out on some of the best times of the year.

Admittedly, the peak season is the summer school holidays, but Newquay is beautiful all year round, and with the house being only 3 minutes walk from the beach,  couples and families can get away from it all and enjoy walking along the headlands and beaches any time of the year.

The beach bars and bistro’s are still open and it’s no trouble getting a table

January to March—the sun is bright and the water crystal clear and turquoise, actually getting in it might be for hardier souls, but sitting in the beach bistro’s enjoying hot coffee and watching the surf pound in and the force of nature giving it her best shot—these are treasures for those of us working in the rat race really appreciate

March to May—the water starts to warm up, the sun starts to feel warm and the south westerly winds are waiting to blow away those winter cobwebs. Around about Easter Newquay starts to come back to life, rather like the sun on the spring flowers, visitors start to appear and the summer traders start to pull up their shutters. This is the time of year when bargain are to be had—in 2007 the best week of the year was in April.

May to Mid July—not as busy as you would think. This kids are still at school, the weather is hot and the days are long—ideal for sitting in our back garden sipping drinks and enjoying the daylight till 10pm, and listening to the waves crashing on the beach.

July to August—it’s busy, if you like crowds come on down. But in Rare Break you have your quiet backwater—the car is parked up, everything is within walking distance, so you won’t even notice them. Best week of the year is the Rip Curl classic (early August), live music on the beach and everyone having a great time and you can hear it from the garden !

September through to Christmas. It slowly gets colder and darker, but Sept and October are the peak months for surfing, the water is still at it’s warmest, it only starts to drop off at the end of November. This is when the epic surfing takes place from the big Westerly swells, still plenty of Indian summer days to be enjoyed without the madding crowd
